  • ArcGIS QuickCapture Introduction by Ismael Chivite Join this session to learn how organizations are using QuickCapture to accelerate field data collection workflows, and basic information to get you started with the app. Note: This pre-recorded session includes a small hands-on exercise with QuickCapture. You may want to install ArcGIS QuickCapture in your device and have it ready. There is no need to sign in into the app with an ArcGIS account to follow the exercise.

  • Communicating the Value of GIS in Your Organization: How to Measure Return on Investment – Understanding, documenting, and communicating the value GIS brings to your organization can be critical to your success. First, presenting the return on investment (ROI) from your programs’ and projects helps celebrate the success of the departments using GIS. This process oftentimes stimulates ideas across an organization as to the uses of spatial thinking and GIS technology. Secondly, it reinforces the investment in technology, people, and equipment to improve government services. Quantified ROI is good to have on hand during budgeting periods, too. Finally, measuring the real benefits of GIS can act as an accountability tool for yourself. It provides a self-check as to whether your program is in sync with or meeting organizational goals. This session will seek to provide guidance on documenting and reporting the business value of GIS.
  • Connecting Two Worlds:  Database Synchronization with Electronic Fieldwork by Michael Van HattenThe Utah Division of Oil, Gas, & Mining has been developing a workflow for Electronic Inspection Modernization. Hoping to improve efficiencies and inspection data we have created a system using Survey123 and Collector to give inspectors up to date inspection priority points and automated electronic inspections that can be completed in the field. This has been an important factor in ensuring we get as many inspections done as we can each field season and have a system to determine which areas may need inspections more than others.

  • Fantasy Mapping by Roger Dunn The art of cartography isn’t limited to real-life boundaries, assets, and geoprocessing results.  Fantasy mapping has its place, too, in GIS.  In this video, I’ll go over some of the basic tools, settings, and behaviors of FantasyPro’s Campaign Cartographer 3+.  As I create a new map, I will translate ArcGIS terms into CC3+ terms to help teach this third-party product.
  • Fulfilling Digital Data Requests by Grant HagueThe City of Provo receives many data requests from developers, contractors, and engineering companies who are required to show existing utilities surrounding proposed projects to avoid potential conflicts. Previously Provo would provide a smaller-scale PDF map showing utility locations the users would then need to redraw within their design software. The Provo GIS team has created a method of delivering multiple types of data, including a digital, georeferenced CAD format that can be integrated into existing project plans.

  • Meeting The Geospatial Data Challenges of A New Era  by Brian Soliday Melissa Ubaldo This presentation will cover how local and state governments such as Maryland and LA County are leveraging 1Integrate and 1Data Gateway to validate and integrate data sources coming from local jurisdictions or other departments.  Learn about the 1Integrate technology underpinning the validation application and how to get your data “fit for purpose” using the 1Integrate application.
  • Optimizing Field Inspections:  Prioritization thru Operational and Geographic Factors by Mark Gwynn  – The Utah Division of Oil, Gas and Mining and the Groundwater Protection Council recently developed an Inspection Prioritization Program that combines operational information and geographical information to create a risk-based model that aids Division inspectors in performing routine compliance inspections in a more efficient manner.
  • Optimizing Workflow:  Electronic Inspection Form Implementation by Kim Coburn The Utah Department of Natural Resources Division of Oil, Gas and Mining Minerals Program for the last two years has been working collectively on getting some of our most common forms electronically in order to improve our efficiency. However, this is not a linear process, it is a J Curve. We have gone through a lot of development and work to implement the new technology. This may discourage others at first with the initial loss of productivity, but these tools are worthwhile for consistency, standardization, and future employees because overtime it does improve performance. Our hope is that this presentation can help set realistic expectations and prepare other organizations with what we have learned.
  • Putting Pandas to Work: Solving GIS Problems in Python by Erik NeemannUGIC 2020 presentation on the Pandas Python library and how it can be used to solve GIS problems.  An intro to Pandas functionality, code demonstration in a Python Notebook, and a few real world applications.
  • Querying Dates in ArcGIS by Roger Dunn ArcGIS layers are backed by various types of databases.  These databases support date fields, but they don’t store or query them the same way.  In this video, I’ll use ArcGIS Pro to query date fields in a shapefile and in a feature class on SQL Server.  The vector layers I use form the shape of a 2020 calendar so you can see the results of the queries better.
  • The Journey from a Paper Form to Creating an Esri Solution by Michelle Baragona In late 2018, the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands contracted with Esri to create a system to monitor Forest Legacy Easements. After a few months of work, what used to be a paper form is now a fully digital workflow. Survey123, WebApps, and Integromat are all used to perform the monitoring, edit, add attachments, create a formatted report, and automatically send emails and store reports in Google Shared Drive. The efforts made by both the Division and Esri are now available as an Esri Solution, which allows anybody to download the package of products to use and modify. This presentation will walk through the workflow, talk about working with Esri, and show the Esri Solution.

Introducing animating time sensitive/series data, and 3d Space-Time Cubes in ArcGIS Pro.
  • WaterMAPS™: Insights into Urban Landscape Water Use Patterns by Chris McGinty Developed by a team at Utah State University, the WaterMaps™ program has been developed to support water resource managers in use and conservation planning. The program utilizes classified imagery identifying urban land cover, weather data, and water meter data to identify areas where there is high potential to conserve water resources. This tool is currently being used by Salt Lake City Public Utilities, Eagle Mountain, and a large corporate landowner in the state of Utah.
